Universe

Andromeda Galaxy

Came across this quotation today in a message from Doc Society (which was born at Channel 4 when I was there alongside the late very lamented Jess Search) remembering a colleague they have lost recently (Aisha Younis). The Neighbour

This sentence resonated, never really thought about this perspective. Not the individual but the neighbo(u)r. Reminiscent of Camus’ philosophy as captured in ‘La Peste’ (The Plague), which I read in the first months of the Pandemic from March 2020 – you can’t find happiness unless your fellow humans are equally able to live in happiness. Or perhaps more precisely, we can find meaning and a form of happiness not through isolated pleasure, but through the solidarity of fighting against a common enemy (the plague in that book, absurdity across his whole oeuvre) alongside our fellow citizens.
