i think you may have met my two old cats (they both died a couple of years ago but lived to the age of 20) – Miles and Charlie. We had a couple of strays who hung about for a while and then moved on and we called them Dizzy and Herbie.

I too was sat the Jazz cafe that evening, although unlike you I did not meet the great man. I like your comparisons, particularly that with Terry Callier.who was another much underrated performer. Richie Havens was for me a genuine superstar, and that is a word that I reserve for the very few. In view of his involvement in ecological issues it is rather appropriate that he died on Earth Day 2013. RIP Richie
