Just had a note from my friend Marty in New York, theatre man as well as a connoisseur of movies, about Ryan's Daughter.

"I remember seeing it in Beverly Hills when I was a child - on an ENOURMOUS screen with something like 8-track stereo. I remember thinking it was long but very enjoyable - and that Christopher Jones' scar (near his eye) moved about from scene to scene. Glad to know that it is still capable (despite those critical notices) of suckering in an audience."

This reminded me of an interesting story I heard on the night about Christopher Jones (who plays Ryan's Daughter's soldier lover - pictured above). He is an American born actor, looks like a cross between Peter O'Toole and Tom Courtney in the film - apparently all his lines were revoiced (uncredited, not surprisingly) for the film by a British actor (whose name now escapes me, but he has a famous father, that much escaped the champagne amnesia). Jones was also 29 at the time of making the film and it pretty much marked the end of his career (bar one odd appearance in 1996). Anyone know his story?
